Did you know that the dental implant is the closest thing to a real tooth patients can get? This is just one of many reasons why people are increasingly going for dental implants instead of partial bridges and full dentures. Dental implants are an ideal tooth restoration solution for people who are missing one or more teeth.
The procedure utilizes a small titanium screw that is used in place of the root. This screw fuses with the bone to become an anchor for the replacement tooth. The result is a permanent solution that looks and feels like a real tooth.
Why Consider a Dental Implant?
Missing teeth will not only affect your self-esteem but also the health of all of the surrounding teeth and gums. A dental implant can offer patients some of the following advantages:
- Help prevent bone shrinkage and jaw deformation
- Replace missing, chipped, or cracked teeth
- Functions just like a regular tooth so you can chew, talk, laugh, and drink comfortably
- A dental implant can be brushed just like normal teeth
- Permanent and durable
- Can improve the structure of your jaw
Dental implants can improve your smile, your self-esteem, and your overall quality of life.
Many patients who consider dental implants are currently living with conventional dentures or bridges and wish to find a more stable, comfortable solution. In some cases, patients are afraid their jaw or surrounding tissue is not strong enough to hold the implants.
Equipped With The Latest Dental Technology for Smoother Implant Placement
Thanks to advances in dental technology, the procedure is fairly simple and often requires just one surgical procedure. At Beauchamp Dental, we use the revolutionary science of the iCat machine. This 3D imaging machine can provide us with more detailed x-rays, which allows for more precise implant placement.
The iCat allows Dr. Beauchamp to work with a comprehensive 3D model of your jaw, giving him insight into nooks and crannies that may be otherwise invisible with traditional x-ray machines. An iCat scan can make all the difference in implant placement surgery. Sometimes, patients do not have enough bone or tissue to successfully support the implants. In this case, Dr. Beauchamp will perform a bone graft.
During the procedure, Dr. Beauchamp surgically positions the anchor into the jaw. Once the implant is in place and the bone surrounding the implant has had ample time to heal, a replacement tooth is can be attached to the metallic root. You can discuss the type of implant you will be getting with Dr. Beauchamp prior to beginning treatment. The placement of an implant is often done with local anesthesia or under conscious oral sedation for maximum patient comfort. See the video below for a comprehensive video on implants.
